Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). These shifts can affect sleep, energy levels, activity, behavior, and the ability to think clearly. The mood changes may occur rarely or multiple times a year.



Types of Bipolar Disorder:
- Bipolar I Disorder: At least one manic episode, possibly followed by hypomanic or depressive episodes.
- Bipolar II Disorder: One or more depressive episodes and at least one hypomanic episode, but never a full manic episode.
- Cyclothymic Disorder: Periods of hypomanic symptoms and depressive symptoms lasting at least two years (one year in children and adolescents).
Signs & Symptoms

Manic/Hypomanic Episode:
- Increased energy or activity
- Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity
- Decreased need for sleep
- Rapid speech or racing thoughts
- Impulsivity or poor decision-making



Depressive Episode:
- Persistent sadness or hopelessness
- Fatigue or loss of energy
- Difficulty concentrating
- Changes in appetite or sleep
- Thoughts of death or suicide
